Description: Designing for the Real World
The Inches to PX converter is a utility for designers transitioning from print to digital. In the print world, everything is measured in absolute units like inches. When you bring those designs to a screen, you need to know how many pixels are required to maintain that physical scale.
This tool is useful for Digital Signage and Kiosk Design, where the physical size of the screen is known and the UI must be sized to match real-world objects.
At 16kpixel, we help you navigate the resolution independence of modern displays by providing a mathematical conversion based on your target PPI.
The Math of Density
To find the pixel count, you multiply the number of inches by the PPI (Pixels Per Inch).
The Formula
Pixels = Inches × PPIExample: 5 inches × 96 PPI = 480px
Why PPI Matters
If you design a 2-inch button at 96 PPI, it will be 192 pixels wide. If that same button is displayed on a 4K monitor with 200 PPI, it will physically shrink unless you scale the pixel count accordingly.
